Alden is ONE! ~ Harrisonburg Virginia

I have a super special place in my heart for this little man. I am just going to throw it out there from the start. Some of you may remember Alden from a family session I did just a month ago, and he has changed so much even since then! (If you didn't see the post it is here) He not only has super awesome dance moves, but the greatest little laugh and watching him grow over the past year has been pretty awesome. I remember when I first met little Alden, I think he may have been just 2 or 3 months old. He has beaten my now 14 month old to join the world on 2 legs and he  pretty much goes down as the best cake smasher ever. Here are some shots of ONE year old Alden on his birthday.

Christine's Bridesmaid Brunch ~ June 1, 2012

The first weekend in June I was a bridesmaid in one of my best friends' wedding. Christine and I have known each other since elementary school, we grew up in the same neighborhood, rode the same bus and both us eventually ended up in Harrisonburg. I stayed, she left and moved to North Carolina. Anyhow, she was married at the Black Horse Inn, in Warrenton, VA and it was an awesome weekend. I was not her photographer since I was in the bridal party but I photographed many of the events leading up to the actual wedding. I am so happy for Christine and Van, they are so great together. It was so good to see all my old friends and I had a blast as usual hanging out with Christine's family.

Here are some photos of our awesome Bridesmaid brunch, which took place the day before the wedding. It was soooo delicious! Check out the spread we had over at the Armstrong's house. They cooked us up nothing short of a feast, with sausage, bacon, pancakes, egg scrambles, cinnamon rolls to name a few.... and as some of you know I absolutely love breakfast, (Welcome to Jaime's CAFE- old high school joke:) so it was a great start to a great weekend. And I will say we never went hungry.......or thirsty for that matter!

I loved that our names were in little frames on the table. So super cute! I should have mentioned earlier that Christine's wedding colors were jewel tones (sooo pretty!) mainly blues and purples. Here are some photos of the table settings...aren't they so cute!

Christine's Matron of Honor recently had a little baby girl, below is Christine with sweet baby Charleigh! (she has the cutest little cheeks...although you can't really see them in this photo)

The bride with her family!

All of the "maids" in Christine's wedding attended the brunch and Christine gave us all these beautiful necklaces by Vera Wang. They were little purple flowers and I must admit, I was super stoked when unwrapped my little gift and saw the pretty blue box. Christine also gave us these gorgeous pendant earrings that complimented our dresses for the wedding as well as the necklaces. Aren't they so pretty???? (see below;) I also decided that it would be a great idea to immediately put ALL my new jewels on....AND the ribbon for the gift appropriately ended up tied around my head. For some reason at that time, someone else had picked up my other camera.........

There will be more photos up soon of all of Christine's wedding festivities, on my website. I will keep everyone informed via Facebook or you can subscribe to the blog!! Have a great week!

Field Trip ~ June 14, 2012 ~ Natural Bridge Zoo

So I got pretty caught up on most my editing and other various work this week, so I decided to take the girls on a mini adventure. We convinced our favorite non-family/family member to go with us too! My seriously awesome babysitter Jamie, (not a typo-her name is Jamie too!) joined the girls and I on a trip down to the Natural Bridge Zoo. Only about an hour and a half drive from Harrisonburg, VA. The girls did awesome! Adelaide being only about 2 weeks into potty training had NO accidents! And Madelynn just sat back and enjoyed the ride. I have mixed feelings about zoos, on one hand they are super fun to take the kids to and we LOVE animals. However, on the other hand I can't help but to think ..... how lonely the elephant was, or why in the world would you have these gorgeous tigers pacing around in a cage. Anyhow, I tried to just enjoy the time without getting to wrapped up into my crazy views about wild animals in any sort of captivity. And I won't really harp on the fact that they were charging $50 to have your picture taken with a baby tiger. Or how the baby tigers' caretaker explained to me how caring for the baby tigers was just like caring for a newborn baby. Um....yeah, okay.

Anyhow, it was a super fun day and I LOVE getting out with my girls. Plus it was a bonus day because we got to hang out with Jamie too. I think it was a unanimous decision that the giraffes were our favorite animal at the zoo. They had six of them and they would eat right out of your hand! *enter small anxiety moment*  I probably should have mentioned earlier that I have watched too many shows on Animal Planet, namely the show Fatal Attractions, to really have any sort of trust in any wild animals. (if you don't know what I am talking about, you can read up on it here)  I don't care how long they have lived in captivity they are still wild, they should be respected and still handled with caution.

Fortunately we had no devastating casualties, one bitten hand and Adelaide simply said..."Mommy, he bite me!" She is one tough little kid, no tears and still just as ready and willing to feed the next group of overly anxious eaters. After just a little over an hour of pushing the stroller through what seemed like quicksand (yes, I am out of shape) we were a little sun kissed and hungry. So we said bye to the 3 little baby tigers and headed off to find lunch. Obviously when we passed Pink Cadillac Diner Jamie and I both knew it was the lunch spot. It was packed....we had no idea we had just hit the jackpot of tacky diners (it was awesome). The walls were strewn with obnoxious Elvis memorabilia and there was a counter with milkshakes and everything. We settled on some standard diner grub and left with full bellies and tired kiddos. In my book that's success!

It's days like this that really make being able to be around my children and doing super fun things with them, such a reward. I mean don't get me wrong there are days that I want to pull my hair out, the days that I have changed 18 diapers in just a short span of a half hour (enter sarcasm), or when I can't seem to squeeze one more drop out of the infants Tylenol bottle because Madelynn seems to be teething every other day. Yeah those days aren't really that amazing. I am not going to sit here and pretend that life is a blissful fairy tale and my kid's are angels. The point is that days like today at the zoo, when Adelaide said "Mommy this is the BEST day EVER!!" simply puts everything in more of a perspective and the bad days don't seem so bad after all. So I revel in the good days like this where a trip to the zoo with hardly any tears and the same pair of underwear returning in the car ride home. For a minute there I thought I was in a dreamland, where all kids peed in the potty and Daddies always emptied the dishwasher (without being asked). Then I got home. But for that one moment it was a utopia and I realized why I do what I do. To be around my children as much as possible.  To photograph the good times and laugh later about the bad. It was that one little moment that made everything else trivial. Here are some photos from our awesome day at the zoo!

Estefani & Victor May 26, 2012~ Richmond, Virginia Wedding Photographer

Not to long ago Estefani contacted me about possibly photographing her upcoming wedding to her fiance Victor. Both of them are originally from Venezuala and I was ecstatic to learn that the whole ceremony would be in Spanish! Yes, I do love to try (operative word TRY) to understand when people around me are talking in Spanish, one would hope that the 5 years that I studied it in school would help. Eh....not really. But anyhow, nonetheless it was something new and I love being in this industry because there is always something new, something different, something fresh. Estefani looked so classic in her ivory lace gown, and I loved photographing her and Victor by the canal in Downtown Richmond. Their reception was held at the Bankuet Place (which some of you may remember photos from last year) but anyhow, its an old bank converted into an event venue. The venue has gorgeous natural light and is a photographer's dream while the sun is still up for reception lighting.

I was not disappointed when the dancing begun. They could seriously cut loose. Below you will see some of my favorite shots from the event! The dancing was probably my favorite part, with Latin music it was next to impossible for me not to at least shake something! But I can't dance and take photos, (although I have tried) so I held my camera up to my eye and tried my hardest to capture the essence of this beautiful day. Congratulations Estefani & Victor!!

The Holt Family~ Harrisonburg Virginia Family Photographer

The Holt's are seriously an awesome family. They have the best kids, and my daughter Adelaide simply loves playing with her bestie, Avery. When Erin asked me to do a family session I was super excited....and a little nervous as I know she is somewhat of a "photo snob" (hah!) with a great eye for talent. So it was humbling when she picked me! Anyhow, Erin is a close friend of mine and is a huge support for me (in the mommy world and photog land)!! We had a great time on the James Madison University campus, in Harrisonburg. She was an active part in her session, we talked and planned and scoped out location, and I must say I was pretty happy with the end result!!! Love you all!!

Nicolle & Scott May 25, 2012~ Harrisonburg Virginia Wedding Photographer

What better way to start off my blog then with two of my favorite people!!! Nicolle and I met just over a year ago through a local moms group. I was stoked when she asked me if I would photograph her wedding....obviously I said yes. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day. The ceremony was held in downtown Harrisonburg, VA. Scott was able to pull a few strings and the ceremony was actually held on the rooftop of a building downtown. It was simply gorgeous and I could not be more happy for the two of them.
